Agent: Motta staying at Inter

The agent of Inter Milan midfielder Thiago Motta has brushed aside speculation linking his client with a move to Paris St Germain during the current transfer window.

Reports in Italy claimed the French giants were prepared to offer €8 million to acquire the services of the 29-year-old.

However, Motta's agent Dario Canovi told tuttomercatoweb.it: "There has been no contact with Paris St Germain. He will remain at Inter even though his contract expires in 2013."

Motta joined Inter from Genoa in 2009 and has scored three goals in 10 league appearances for I Nerazzurri this season.

Nagatomo heads Inter to victory

Japan left-back Yuto Nagatomo scored the only goal of the game as Inter Milan moved up to seventh in the Serie A table with a 1-0 win at Genoa today.

Nagatomo scored for the second match in a row, having also netted in the 2-0 weekend win over Fiorentina. It was the 25-year-old's fourth goal for Inter since joining the club in January and what's more, it was a rare header for the former Cesena and FC Tokyo man.

He was also in the right place in injury time to head a shot from Marco Rossi off the line and help Inter hold onto the three points. It was just reward for one of the Nerazzurri's unsung heros this season. Nagatomo has been a near ever-present in this campaign and has made the left-back slot his own.

For Inter it was their fourth win in the last five games and they are now just ten points behind leaders Juventus and at least back in the European qualification picture.

"We've got three very important points. We knew we had to jump up the table to close in on the Champions League places," said goalkeeper Julio Cesar, who set his eye on a top three finish. "We have to be in the next Champions League. Every match will be a final for us, we still have to climb up the table.

"No-one expected this start to the season but the major fault is ours because it's us (players) who go on the pitch and we need to get Inter out of this difficult situation. We're turning a page and we hope to continue this way."

Inter coach Claudio Ranieri opted to pair Diego Milito and Giampaolo Pazzini up front together with the returning Diego Forlan given a place on the bench. Ranieri also kept faith with youngster Marco Faraoni and gave Andrea Poli, who was previously at Genoa's city rivals Sampdoria, a debut.

In a first half of few chances Milito linked up with Pazzini but Sebastien Frey tipped his shot from outside the box around the post. The best chance came just after the half hour mark when Walter Samuel met a corner with a bullet header but Frey made an instinctive save and was up quickly to clutch at Milito's rushed follow-up.

Genoa had the ball in the net on 56 minutes but Andreas Granqvist's header from Miguel Veloso's left-wing free-kick was ruled out for offside.

Inter went in front on 67 minutes as Ricardo Alvarez, a half-time substitute, swung over a cross from the right and Nagatomo, the smallest man on the pitch, snuck up at the back post to guide home a header from six yards.

Alvarez almost sealed the three points when he let fly from 25 yards but between Frey and the post, the ball was kept out of the goal. Moments later Rossi had Genoa's best chance but his shot from 20 yards took a slight deflection and flew over.

Forlan came on near the end and had a left-footed effort from an angle that Frey dealt with comfortably. But then in injury time Nagatomo threw himself in front of a Rossi effort and goalkeeper Julio Cesar then acrobatically tipped over Veloso's follow-up in a frantic finale.

Pazzini still had a chance to make the points safe on the counter but Frey came to his side's rescue to ensure a 1-0 result.

Klose hits double, Inter beat Viola

Miroslav Klose's brace helped Lazio to a dramatic 3-2 victory at Lecce that keeps the capital club on the coat-tails of Serie A leaders Juventus.

Lecce's David Di Michele and Stefano Ferrario scored either side of strikes from Klose and Lorik Cana for the Rome outfit as the hosts looked set for a point in the week they sacked Eusebio Di Francesco and replaced him with Serse Cosmi. But Klose had the final say with an 87th-minute winner that ensured Lecce remain bottom and put Lazio into second, a point behind Juve having played a game more.

Inter Milan vaulted from the fringes of the relegation zone into the top ten of the congested league table with a 2-0 win at home to Fiorentina. Former Viola striker Giampaolo Pazzini gave Claudio Ranieri's side the lead four minutes before the break, with Yuto Nagatomo adding the second after 49 minutes.

Palermo missed the chance to climb to fifth as they went down to a surprise 1-0 defeat at home to Cesena, who nevertheless remain inside the relegation zone after only their third win in 14 games this season. Adrian Mutu scored the winner after 63 minutes, while seconds later Palermo were reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Ezequiel Munoz for a second yellow card.

Goals from Marco Rossi and Rodrigo Palacio helped Genoa claim their first away win since September as they saw off Siena 2-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
