Polyester tennis strings have been big internationally for years. Kirschbaum, Pacific, and Poly Star are very well known brands in South America and Europe. In the US there has been a huge surge in the use of polyester tennis strings in the last 8 years or so. Very durable and more forgiving than Kevlar, polyester tennis strings became a great option for chronic string breakers.
In the early 2000s many professional players began using polyester strings. Many use a combination (hybrid) of polyester and a more forgiving string like natural gut. Wanting to emulate their favorite pros, the tennis playing public began using polyester strings. It became apparent that polyester strings are not for everyone. Arm, wrist, and shoulder pain became a common issue. Especially when combined with racquets that are too light and too stiff.
In recent years more forgiving, spin-friendly polyester strings have become available. But they lose tension much quicker than high quality synthetic strings and natural gut.
A majority of recreational tennis players never break strings, and they don't swing hard enough to get the true benefit of polyester strings. There is really no reason for most recreational tennis players to use polyester strings.
There is an incredible amount of high-quality synthetic tennis strings on the market. Here are a few that would work great as a full string job or as part of a hybrid for chronic string breakers.
Gamma Live Wire XP. Many strings state that they are comparable in feel to natural gut. In almost every instance, they're not. Live Wire XP actually is.
