Pedro Rodriguez hit the opener three minutes from the hour mark with a low effort after latching onto a Xavi Hernandez deft pass that released him in the area.
Wayne Rooney brought the score level seven minutes later as he was set up by Ryan Giggs before hitting the net with a well-placed shot.
Lionel Messi put the Catalans ahead on 54 minutes with a delightful left-footed shot from outside the area.
Another drive from David Villa near the edge of the area killed off the game with the third strike in the 69th minute.
