Michael Vick Dogfighting Scandal

During the summer leading up to the 2007 season, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was indicted by the federal government in connection with a dogfighting operation that was headquartered on property he owned in Surry County, Virginia.

Along with three others, Vick was charged with conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture. On August 27, Vick pleaded guilty to federal charges related to dogfighting and was also suspended indefinitely by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Vick then checked himself into jail on November 19, three weeks before his scheduled sentencing. And on December 10, he was sentenced to 23 months in jail.

Many thought Vick's time away from the game -- combined with the fact that he never really excelled as a passer along with the bad publicity that would accompany him the rest of his life -- effectively signaled the end of his career in the NFL.

But we had yet to see the last of Michael Vick.
