The New York Islanders have reached a deal with restricted free agent Josh Bailey, signing the forward to a two-year contract worth $2.1 million.
The news comes on the same day the organization announced a contract extension for John Tavares.
Bailey had a team-imposed deadline of 7am et on Friday to re-sign with the team or risk forfeiting the season. Training camp begins on Friday morning with players reporting for physicals.
The Islanders made Bailey a qualifying offer over the summer but the Bowmanville, Ontario native decided against signing it.
Last week, Bailey did not seem worried that a deal would eventually get done and he would stay on Long Island.
"No question," Bailey told ESPNNewYork.com. "I don't even consider the other side of things. My focus is here. I'm an Islander and that's the way I want it to stay."
Last season, Bailey scored 11 goals and added 17 assists for 28 points in 70 games. The season included a brief stint in the American Hockey League, where he had 17 points in 11 games.
