Andy Fantuz has not yet committed to the Saskatchewan Roughriders that he will play this weekend against Winnipeg.
Fantuz was waived by the NFL's Chicago Bears last Friday and is allowed 10 days to entertain other NFL opportunities. Should no other offers materialize he is obligated to fulfil the option year of his CFL contract with Saskatchewan.
The Riders are however hoping the situation is resolved before that 10-day period is up, perhaps as early as Wednesday, and would like to see him practicing by Thursday at the latest.
Fantuz was on the Riders sidelines during the team's 27-7 Labour Day Classic win over the Blue Bombers last Sunday. If he misses the Banjo Bowl this week, Fantuz will lose around $9,000 as his CFL contract with the Riders is worth approximately $160,000 per season.
He was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian last season after leading the league in receiving with 1,380 yards and 87 receptions.
